Clubs History

Darüşşafaka Sports Club was established in 1914 and achieved great successes, initially in soccer and volleyball.

The club founded a basketball team on June 4, 1951, and won high school and junior (ages 10-15) league basketball championships in 1950-51 and later seasons. The success resulted in the club focusing on basketball.The team became a champion in Turkey in the 1960-61 and 1961-62 seasons, and made history by becoming the only Turkish team to qualify for the third round of European championships. Their achievement popularized Turkish basketball, and the team produced star players.

In September 2013, the Darüşşafaka Foundation signed a long-term cooperation protocol between Darüşşafaka Sports Club and Doğuş Group.This protocol encouraged Darüşşafaka basketball teams to achieve further successes under the Darüşşafaka Doğuş Basketball name, and for Doğuş Group to contribute to the educational expenses of students at Darüşşafaka schools under the management of Darüşşafaka Doğuş Sportif Yatırımlar ve Ticaret A.Ş.

Among the goals of this cooperation are the forming of outstanding teams and achieving successes in the Turkish and European basketball leagues, with a focus on advancing Turkish basketball and developing a fair play-oriented approach to sports. They also aim to promote professional athletes from the junior team and up who have lifelong learning abilities and a sense of social responsibility, are forward-thinking and self-confident. The cooperation aims to accomplish these goals by providing amateur athletes all over the country with the opportunity to develop their athletic skills through the mission of promoting equal opportunity.


Doğuş Group is cooperating with Darüşşafaka Foundation and Darüşşafaka Sports Club to help realize these goals and to achieve new triumphs in basketball in Turkey and abroad.
